Things to see
Set out on a tour of discovery through the Winsener Elbmarsch. Our nature reserves with their lush, green meadows and rustling forests show that people live in harmony with nature here. Historic paths give an insight into bygone ages and brightly-coloured galleries invite visitors in to marvel at their artworks. There are unique experiences to be had both on and by the Elbe and its tributaries. From here you can look out over the landscape through different eyes and enjoy life at a slower pace. The ships are just as varied as the riverside landscapes.
Excursions go as far as the city of Hamburg, to the little sailor’s town of Lauenburg, to the castled town of Bleckede or to the timber-framed town of Hitzacker. Sea eagles, beavers and sheep seek out their food while the captain recounts exciting tales of life on the river. The little towns with their timber-framed buildings and thatched cottages are characteristic of the Winsener Elbmarsch, as are the marshland “row villages”, called Hufendörfer. Theatre performances and concerts on stages large and small are worth a visit.
