The moated castle is more than 700 years old…
… It is seen as the symbol of the town of Winsen (Luhe). The castle was built on oak stakes. It was first mentioned in historical records in 1277. It used to be inhabited by Duchess Dorothea. Today its historic rooms are home to the district court. The wonderful castle chapel and the old tower can be visited during guided tours.
